Born on the 21st of September, 1874. The eighth and final child of Emily C Horne and Frederick J Turner, agent to the Duke of Portland. The family lived at The Dean, Kilmarnock until 1879 at which point they moved south of the border. Three of Frederick’s sons (George included) became land agent’s also with one managing the Duke’s estates in Ayrshire while George was agent to Lord Cowper at Panshanger, near Hertford. Given the family that he retained in Ayrshire it is therefore likely that this is how he and Mabel met. They returned together to Hertfordshire where they lived the rest of their lives, having seven children together. George died in 1956.
