Lt-Col William Kentigern Hamilton-Campbell

Born at Cairnhill, Ayrshire, 30 Sept. 1865, the eldest son of the late Charles Vereker Hamilton-Campbell and Mary William Sancroft Randall . He was educated at Sedbergh School Yorkshire, joined the Ayrshire Yeomanry in 1888 and became Captain in 1891. He served in the South African War (1899-1902) in command of the 6th battalion, Imperial Yeomanry and took part in several operations. He was twice mentioned in despatches and was created a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order for his services from 1900-1902 and became a Lieutenant-Colonel in the Ayrshire Yeomanry in recognition of these services also. On the 15th of October 1908 he married Edith Agnes Angus at Monkton Church, Ayrshire. They went on to have three children: Jean, Mungo and Margaret. He died on the 22nd of November 1917.
